The Elizabeth Tower, London
Category: Carving, Lettering and Sculpture
A central part of the restoration programme addressed the building’s structural and decorative stone work, some of which had fallen into disrepair and much which had been weathered away or eroded by meteorological effects, or pollution. Surveys revealed the need for upto 1000 stone replacements and indents. The judges felt that the stonemasonry work would ensure longevity for the carvings on this iconic building.
